Hinduism
Hinduism is one of the oldest living religions in the world,
having begun in around 1,500 BCE, but tracing some of its roots
to at least
2,500 BCE. Hinduism is based on a number of religious texts including the four
Vedas, the eighteen Puranas, and the epic poems Mahabharata and Ramayana.
There are believed to be around 1 billion adherents of Hinduism
(making it the third-largest organized religion after Christianity and Islam),
of whom
around 890 million live in
India.
Significant populations of Hindus are also found in
Nepal,
Sri Lanka,
and in Bali,
Indonesia.
Additionally, Hindu populations are also found found in those
countries containing Indian diaspora such as
the United Kingdom,
Canada and
the
United States of America.

They persist in a few places in India today although constituting a clear minority within Hinduism. ?rauta is a vrddhi derivation of ?ruti, just like Smarta is the vrddhi derivation of Smrti. The most famous Srauta community are the Nambudiri Brahmins of Kerala. The ?rauta tradition as per the Vedas lays more emphasis on practice of the rituals rather than having a set of beliefs. The practices of the ?rauta tradition mainly consist of Yajnas. The Yajnas are divided into two categories, namely: nitya-karma and kaamya karma. Nitya-karma refers to those Yajnas that have to be performed daily or as per occasion. Kaamya-karma refers to those Yajnas performed with a particular purpose such as wishing for rain, cattle, overlordship or for a son (e.g. Putrakameshti). |

Click Here | Product Description: High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term meaning to do no harm (literally: the avoidance of violence - himsa). It is an important tenet of the religions that originated in ancient India (Hinduism, Buddhism and especially Jainism). Ahimsa is a rule of conduct that bars the killing or injuring of living beings. It is closely connected with the notion that all kinds of violence entail negative karmic consequences. The extent to which the principle of non-violence can or should be applied to different life forms is controversial between various authorities, movements and currents within the three religions and has been a matter of debate for thousands of years. Though the origins of the concept of ahimsa are unknown, the earliest references to ahimsa are found in the texts of historical Vedic religion, dated to 8th century BCE. Here, ahinsa initially relates to "non-injury" without a moral connotation, but later to non-violence to animals and then, to all beings. The idea emerges again in the Hindu texts Mahabharata and Manu Smriti, where ahimsa is said to be merited by good karma. |

Click Here | Product Description: High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In Hinduism, Yajña (Sanskrit ???? yajña; also anglicized as Yagna, Yagya or Yadnya) is a ritual of sacrifice (Monier-Williams gives the meanings "worship, prayer, praise; offering, oblation, sacrifice") derived from the practice of Vedic times. It is performed to please the gods or to attain certain wishes. An essential element is the sacrificial fire - the divine Agni - into which oblations are poured, as everything that is offered into the fire is believed to reach the gods. As the name of the service, the term Yagna is linguistically (but not functionally) cognate with Zorastrian (Ahura) Yasna. Unlike Vedic Yajna, Zoroastrian Yasna has "to do with water rather than fire" (Drower, 1944:78; Boyce, 1975:147-191). |
